Breakthrough research on Wearable Health Monitoring wins the SIU Prize Computer Science Season 1 Bronze Prize

Dr. Pham Huu Dang Nhat, Assistant Professor at Cardiff University, Wales, UK, has been awarded the SIU Prize Computer Science Season 1 Bronze Prize for his doctoral thesis: “Enabling Human Physiological Sensing by Leveraging Intelligent Head-Worn Wearable Systems”.

Dr. Pham Huu Dang Nhat successfully defended his doctoral thesis in 2023 at the prestigious University of Oxford, United Kingdom. His doctoral thesis, titled “Enabling Human Physiological Sensing by Leveraging Intelligent Head-Worn Wearable Systems” is not only a groundbreaking scientific achievement but also a gateway to pioneering solutions that improve everyday life.

Dr. Pham Huu Dang Nhat has focused on developing intelligent wearable devices, capable of collecting and analyzing critical human physiological signals through compact yet highly accurate systems.

Notably, his research has proven the feasibility of measuring brainwaves, eye movements, and facial muscle activities – signals once thought to be confined to sophisticated laboratory settings.
Beyond the lab, these devices hold immense promise for widespread real-world applications. Dr. Pham Huu Dang Nhat leads several impactful research projects, including those funded by international organizations such as The Alan Turing Institute, the Royal Society, Academy of Medical Science, United Kingdom Research and Innovation, the Welsh Government, and Cardiff University. These research projects have strong collaborations with American, Korean, and Vietnamese partners, with total funding of 350,000 GBP (~450,000 USD).

SIU Prize Computer Science Season 1 Bronze Prize: VND 400.000.000 (Four hundred million VND) in cash; SIU Prize silver commemorative medal; and a tour worth up to VND 200,000,000 (Two hundred million VND).

In the inaugural season of 2023-2024, the SIU Prize Computer Science received over 100 nominations from 19 countries and territories. The outstanding works covered a wide range of fields: Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Network and Information Security, Telecommunications, IoT, Bioinformatics, etc. The nominations went through three rigorous rounds of evaluation by the Preliminary Council, Professional Committee and Professional Council, which consisted of leading professors, scientists, and experts in related fields from prestigious universities, research institutes, and businesses in the United States, Canada, Australia, France, and Vietnam.
