ABOUT THE AWARD

SIU PRIZE in the field of Health Sciences includes Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Technology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, etc.

SIU PRIZE HEALTH SCIENCES is an award honoring the best doctoral theses on/related to the fields of Health Sciences, including scientific research, inventions, scientific-technological products that are groundbreaking, innovative, disruptive, and/or highly applicable, having created changes of great value and impact or possessing such a potential, contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam in particular and the world in general.

The award is given to doctoral theses focusing on design and development of drugs and biologics; technical and technological solutions related to disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment, aiming to take care of human health in the best way possible. Especially, the award looks forward to honoring research on health-related issues and dangerous diseases with high infection or mortality rates in Vietnam and around the world, including but not limited to, geriatrics, cardiology, oncology, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, new and re-emerging infections, and infectious diseases, etc.

SIU PRIZE HEALTH SCIENCES is held every 2 years to motivate, encourage and nurture the aspirations to serve Vietnamese people, to strive for Vietnamese intellectual excellence. With this award, SIU wishes to create a bridge connecting Vietnamese intellectuals with scientists, researchers, and inventors around the world in order to join hands for the cause of science – technology development, all in the name of service to humanity in general and Vietnam in particular.

AWARD SCHEDULE

  • Beginning of September 2024 – Nomination Portal is open for the first season of the SIU Prize Health Sciences.
  • June 1, 2025
    - For organizations (diplomatic missions, overseas Vietnamese organizations, overseas Vietnamese student associations, universities, research institutes/centers, science and technology academies, science associations/networks, corporations and enterprises, innovation incubators, etc.) or individuals (Professors, scientists working in areas of expertise related to the fields of the SIU Prize) directly making nominations via the SIU Prize website: Organizations/Individuals are required to complete the nomination process. The nominee (Candidate) is required to complete the application process and submit all required documents by June 1, 2025 using the online nomination form available at www.siuprize.org
    - For organizations (diplomatic missions, overseas Vietnamese organizations, overseas Vietnamese student associations, universities, research institutes/centers, science and technology academies, science associations/networks, corporations and enterprises, innovation incubators, etc.) or individuals (Professors, scientists working in areas of expertise related to the fields of the SIU Prize) making nominations via letter of recommendation: The nominee (Candidate) is required to submit the letter via the SIU Prize website, complete the application process and submit all required documents by June 1, 2025.
  • June to July 2025 – The SIU Prize Committee reviews and selects the the most outstanding theses to be submitted to the SIU Prize Council for further evaluation.
  • August to September 2025 – The SIU Prize Council selects the best theses for the awards.
  • End of September 2025 – Recipients of SIU Prize Health Sciences are announced.
  • November 2025 – The SIU Prize Award Ceremony incorporating the International Conference takes place in Vietnam.

A. Rights and obligations of SIU Prize candidates

1.Required Documents

1.1. Proof of Vietnamese descent

  • For Vietnamese citizens, candidates must submit a notarized/certified copy of their identity card/citizen identification card, or passport (all must be valid).
  • For candidates of Vietnamese descent permanently residing in a foreign country, candidates must submit a notarized/certified copy (issued by a competent agency licensed by the government of the host countries) of one of the following documents as proof of current or former Vietnamese nationality:

+ Valid Vietnamese passport

+ Certificate of Vietnamese descent issued by the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate

+ Birth certificate

+ Identity card

+ Citizen identification card

+ Household registration book

+ Marriage certificate

+ Old passport

  • For candidates of Vietnamese descent permanently residing in a foreign country whose biological grandparent or biological parent is of Vietnamese descent, candidates must submit notarized and certified copies of the following documents:

+ Birth certificate evidencing the biological relationship between the candidate and their biological grandparent  or biological parent who is of Vietnamese descent, and one of the following documents:

      • Certificate of Vietnamese descent issued to the relative (either grandparent or parent) by the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate
      • One of the following documents: birth certificate, identity card/citizen identification, household registration book, marriage certificate, old passport of candidate’s relative (either grandparent or parent) as proof of current or former Vietnamese nationality.

1.2. Nomination documents

  • Organization or Individual Nomination form (provided by the SIU Prize Committee)
  • Scientific résumé of candidate (form provided by the SIU Prize Organizing Committee)
  • Abstract of the nominated thesis
  • At least 03 letters of recommendation from advisors and professors, scientists, scientific and technological organizations specialized in the field of the thesis.

2. Candidates are entitled to receive detailed information concerning the award (upon request);

3. Candidates shall guarantee the authorship of the submitted thesis and be required to cooperate in resolving any conflicts/complaints concerning the candidate’s descent, the submitted thesis, and other relevant issues;

4. Candidates are admitted to the AIWS network, introduced to businesses and education organizations, and expected to work with the media teams of GAIE and SIU in order to apply the thesis results to practice;

5. Candidates are invited to international conferences and seminars organized by GAIE/SIU;

6. Candidates are invited to conduct visiting lectures, advise Ph.D. students, and help implement GAIE’s and SIU’s applied projects;

7. SIU and GAIE are allowed to use information, images, and theses of all candidates and winners for the purpose of organizing, promoting, and developing the award without incurring any additional payment.

B. Rights and obligations of SIU Prize winners

In addition to the rights and obligations listed above, SIU Prize winners:

1. are required to take part in a Vietnam tour, and be a speaker at the International Conferences and talk shows within the Award Ceremony taking place in Vietnam;

2. are required to be an Honorary Ambassador of GAIE and SIU for 02 (two) years after winning the award, promoting the award and providing assistance for the development of GAIE and SIU.
