Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Vice President of Research & Development Fasikl Incorporated, Minnesota, USA has been awarded the SIU Prize Computer Science Season 1 Silver Prize for his breakthrough doctoral thesis in Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan has made outstanding contributions to the field of Biomedical Engineering through his doctoral thesis, titled “A High-Precision Bioelectric Neural Interface Toward Human-Machine Symbiosis”. The doctoral thesis was successfully defended and won the Best Dissertation Award in 2021 at the University of Minnesota, USA – a global leader in biomedical engineering.
Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan’s research opens a new era, allowing amputees to control prosthetics with lifelike precision while receiving sensory feedback. This is considered a major step forward in realizing the potential of human-machine symbiosis, significantly improving the life quality for millions of patients with mobility impairments worldwide.

His work combines high-precision neural microchips with deep-learning AI to decode motor intentions directly from nerve signals. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan successfully demonstrated a neuroprosthetic hand. In addition, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan has contributed to several prestigious scientific projects sponsored by organizations such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF), with a total funding of 2,369,242 USD.
During his doctoral research, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan published 19 high-impact papers in top-tier journals, contributed to 2 book chapters, and secured 2 U.S. patents with 10 more pending applications.
